TASTING NOTES
Il Notturno is the historic Sangiovese of Tenuta La Palazza, proud ambassador of the DOC Predappio sub-area. Born from the selection of the best grapes from all the vineyards of the Drei Donà family; harvested, vinified and aged separately to then be assembled to make a wine that fully expresses the soul of the Romagna terroir. It is a very pleasant wine with a balanced complexity. Notturno was also the first horse that was born in the Dei Donà house, just as the wine of the same name was the first wine that was born in La Palazza in the new course wanted by Claudio Drei Donà. Traditional fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. A prolonged maceration on the skins increases the extraction and gives body and color to this wine. The malolactic fermentation is completed in steel tanks before aging for about a year in large French oak barrels and in Allier tonneaux. This 2020 has a dark ruby red colour. On the nose we find notes of cloves, dark chocolate, a touch of stewed plums and Amarena. On the palate it shows a massive attack, dark savouriness and dark fruit covering the palate, concentrated and full of grit, but also pleasantly juicy, currently still very young, it will develop well.

The Tenuta La Palazza was built between the cities of Forlì and Predappio in a strategic position between the valleys of the Montone and Rabbi rivers, around one of the watchtowers that Caterina Sforza ordered to build to defend her possessions. The estate, owned by the Counts Drei Donà since 1923, has always been dedicated to the production of Sangiovese grapes. The company underwent a radical transformation in 1979, when Claudio Drei Donà took over the management, together with his son Enrico. Of the 23 hectares cultivated under organic farming, the majority is dedicated to the Sangiovese vineyards from which the classic Predappio Doc "Notturno" and the Riserva "Vigna del Pruno ” are produced. The futurist vision of Count Claudio also gave birth to "Il Tornese" , the first great white wine from international grapes in Romagna and the red "Magnificat" , a "single vineyard" from the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard planted in this region. The particular names of the wines deserve a mention: in fact, they were baptized with the names of the horses of the small family breeding farm.
