The notation 'In der Wand' dates back to a donation by the parish of Dürnstein in the year 1314 and describes three plots on the site of the so-called Kummersthal, located to the west of Dürnstein, which, however, is not registered as a single vineyard. Accessible only on foot via 100 stone steps, this steeply sloping terraced site is worked entirely by hand. It is unique and is also characterised by extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night due to its western orientation. This peculiarity, combined with the uniqueness of the soil, which is characterised by a high amount of Orthogneiss and shallow topsoil, allows the vines growing on this plot to produce extremely mineral wines, which are particularly long-lived, incredibly concentrated and characterised by sublime length.
