TASTING NOTES
Etna Rosato DOC 2025 Tenute Ballasanti is a rosé that captures the vibrant spirit of Europe’s highest active volcano. Made from Nerello Mascalese grapes grown in century-old alberello bush vines at 600 m above sea level, this wine is an authentic expression of Etna’s terroir. The 2025 vintage is a classic year—a return to normal after two challenging seasons (2023–2024)—with a wetter season (+20% rainfall vs 2024) concentrated between January and August and cooler average temperatures that reduced heat stress. Dry, breezy flowering and fruit set in May–June ensured perfect fruit set. Slow colour change (veraison), due to the absence of water stress, and harvests from August to October produced healthy, balanced grapes with excellent sugar–acid equilibrium, vibrant acidity and clear, expressive aromatics. The fruit for this wine comes from the Chiusitti contrada in the municipality of Mascali (CT), an area renowned for potassium- and iron-rich volcanic soils. Those soils, together with Etna’s altitude and unique climate, lend the wine a distinctive mineral character and unmatched aromatic complexity. Nerello Mascalese, Sicily’s native grape and the king of Etna, is celebrated for its elegance and terroir-reflecting nature; in 2025 Nerello Mascalese wines show defined volcanic typicity with a good balance of acidity and sugar, brightness and fragrance. Tenute Ballasanti is a family-run estate born of Manuela Seminara’s passion, rooted in generations of agricultural tradition on the volcano’s slopes. The estate’s philosophy is to highlight the territory and produce wines that faithfully express Etna. To the eye: pale onion-skin pink, delicate and inviting. On the nose: distinctly floral, with intense strawberry and raspberry notes that are clear and seductive—typical of the 2025 vintage. On the palate: fresh and pleasantly sapid, with vibrant acidity and a mineral streak that recalls the volcanic soils. Balanced, silky and persistent, this rosé is ideal for special moments. Food pairings: pairs beautifully with tomato-based dishes—try Sicilian bruschetta with cherry tomatoes and capers—as well as swordfish alla eoliana and sarde a beccafico.
