TASTING NOTES
Chablis Premier Cru AOC Vau‑Ligneau 2024 by Domaine Michaut Frères is a precise, elegant and vertical Burgundy Chardonnay crafted for those who want a mineral, refined white. This Chablis Premier Cru clearly conveys the tense, saline character of Vau‑Ligneau, marrying the typical Chablis rigor with a broader texture that promises both immediate pleasure and excellent bottle evolution. The 2024 vintage shows a very clean, vibrant profile, marked freshness and sharp aromatic definition. Vau‑Ligneau’s kimmeridgian soils, rich in marl and limestone, give the wine its clear mineral and saline imprint, while favourable exposures and Chablis’s cool climate preserve acidity and clarity. To the eye it is bright straw yellow with green‑tinged highlights. On the nose there are fresh citrus, green apple, white peach, delicate florals, flinty stone and a hint of almond, with subtle notes of bread crust and sea spray. On the palate it is straightforward, dynamic and precise, with crisp acidity, strong mineral drive and a long, clean finish. Domaine Michaut Frères, run by the third generation of the Michaut family since 1960, now sees Adrien Michaut steering cellar work with careful innovation while respecting local tradition and Chablis identity. Perfect with oysters, raw seafood, shellfish and sushi, it also pairs well with hard cheeses and delicate fish dishes. A gastronomic Premier Cru for those seeking recognisable Chablis character and refined food pairings.
