The plots are located at the southern entrance to Gevrey-Chambertin, on a south-facing slope. The soil is mainly composed of gravel that heats up easily. Destemming, short cold maceration and ageing for 18 months in barriques, 30% of which are new. In the glass it has a medium crimson-purple colour. Rather peppery and spicy on a pure and rather dark fruit. Typical Gevrey until you taste it, on the sip there is an unexpected juicy red fruit character that makes it unique. The dry, firm tannins need more time than the country wines of this vintage. In general, fruit aromas dominate during its youth, then smoky notes take over. The spicy tones that emerge during ageing give it a special character, rare in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin is a village in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, where some of the world's most prestigious and expensive red wines are produced. The village is home to nine grand cru vineyards, an impressive number for a Burgundy village (the nearest competitor is Vosne-Romanée). Although grand cru wines attract attention, those produced under the standard Gevrey-Chambertin appellation are held in high regard. Just like their grand cru siblings, all Gevrey-Chambertin wines are made almost exclusively from Pinot Noir. Widely regarded as the most full-bodied and structured in Burgundy, the village wines have a particular intensity of colour, aroma and flavour, not to mention impressive longevity. Well-made examples can evolve in the bottle for several decades. These qualities, combined with the solid reputation of the village, have earned Gevrey-Chambertin the reputation as the king of Burgundy wines.
