Crémant is a sparkling wine produced with a classic method in Alsace. The production specification provides for the harvest only manual and the must must be obtained only from soft pressing. It must refine at least nine months on the yeasts and can be marketed at least one year after bottling. It differs in the pressure developed by yeasts during fermentation in the bottle: it must be less than the five atmospheres. This makes it more delicate, less carbonated and softer than other classic method sparkling wines. To have an Italian comparison we can compare it to Franciacorta Satén. Cremants are normally in most cases thousandths, so they do not have reserve wines in them. This makes the product subject to the trend of the harvest. Gustave Lorenz,on the other hand, who produces Crémant as well as wines stopped in Alsace for 250 years, has in his portfolio products both thousandth and sans année, thus using reserve wines, from its vineyards, all Gran Cru, guaranteeing a constant quality over the years, as typically happens in Champagne. Cremant d'Alsace is an excellent alternative to a Franciacorta or a Champagne, especially as an aperitif or in large formats for a party with many friends.
