In The world's 50 best Vineyard for 2019 ranking we find the splendid Weingut Tement. To give you an idea of what it means to be fifteenth on this list we tell you that Château Margaux is in 22nd place while Ruinart is in 46th. Tement Winery is located in Berghausennel in the southern Stiria region (Steiermark), the green heart of Austria,on the border with Slovenia. Located on the enchanting heights between vineyards perched in the middle of woods and pastures, it overlooks the Zieregg vineyard; from here you can appreciate the breathtaking view towards Slovenia and the eastern part of Stiria. The modern winery, built in 2001, is located in a spectacular position and dominates from above about 50 hectares of cultivated land, of the company's total 85 hectares, on the Slovenian side with exposures from south-east to south-west, cultivated in an organic and eco-sustainable regime with yields that do not exceed 45 hectolitres per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand in several steps to obtain them fully ripe and perfectly healthy given the predilection for whites of great finesse. The soils, calcareous with marine sediments, give elegant and mineral wines. The most common variety is Sauvignon Blanc, which accounts for 60% of the entire property. The other varieties are Gelber Muskateller, Morillon, Weissburgunder and Gewurztraminer. White wines account for 96% of total production; red wines (Blauer Zweigelt and Pinot Noir) account for 3% and sweet wines 1%. As for white wines, they are divided as follows:
Gebietsweine: the harvest is manual, the fermentation controlled and the maturation lasts 6 months. Pleasantly aromatic, clear and fresh. Put on the market at the beginning of the March merse. They are dry wines (maximum sugar residue 4 g/l), traditional white grape varieties. Ageing capacity of 2-3 years
Ortsweine:wines from the best vineyards in a small wine-making area and in that particular terroir are ambassadors; label the name of the location. The typicality and characteristics of these wines derive from the terroir of origin. Native vines and low yields in the vineyard are the key principles of these wines. Put on the market from March 1st of the year following the harvest, they give their best if drunk within 5 years of bottling.
Riedenweine:these are wines obtained from individual vineyards that best express the uniqueness of the terroir. After fermentation with selected yeasts, the wine refines for a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 48 months in oak barrels. Capacity aging up to 10 years.
Beerenauslese:these are wines obtained with selected grapes that have matured completely, with a high sugar concentration thanks to the action of Botrytis cinerea (noble mold); the grapes are generally subjected to late harvesting. They are very long-lived wines in fact the 2017 harvest is considered at its peak between 2019 and 2035
