The Visconti family has its roots in Garda about a century ago and has always had a deep connection with this territory. The production area of Lugana was born and binds inextricably to that of the Visconti family, so much so that even today this name evokes the origin of Lugana. In particular, Lugana Visconti is an element of identification of the city of Desenzano del Garda. The passion and tenacity of the Visconti family allowed the spread of Turbiana throughout the southern area of Benaco, straddling Lombardia and Veneto, until it became the most important white grape in the territory and that helped to make Gardesani wines famous nationally and internationally. Already in the 1950s in fact the Visconti family was ambassador of this wine. The vineyards ofAntica Casa Visconti are located in flat soils, where clay is more concentrated and loose, in the heart of classical Lugana, giving rise to typical wines. The property, with the passing of the decades, has increased the vineyard area, and has vineyards also in the classic Garda area and in the Custozaarea, thus embracing the low lake in its entirety. In the early 2000s, the Visconti family, after decades of activity in the wine sector, decided to direct its entrepreneurial activity towards other projects. Their heritage is passed on to another historical family that has always dedicated itself to viticulture, the Formentini family. Immediately the will and sensitivity to keep alive the historical memory and cultural value of a recognized and consolidated brand was born. In 2012, in fact, having the historic cellars confirmed the intention to cease their activity, an important agreement was reached between the two families to give continuity to the Visconti brand. The wines of theAntica Casa Visconti still continue to be produced with the vineyards from which they have been born for decades.
