The 2017 harvest was unique. An incredibly warm August brought the grapes almost to ripening. The beginning of September, marked by two days of rain, restored the water balance of the plants and lowered temperatures. The harvest started earlier than usual but lasted a long time, creating diversity and complexity in the different lots of Sangiovese. The particularly low yields of the 2017 vintage produced intense wines, which despite the high temperatures are of great concentration, powerful and with vibrant acidity. The aromas are dominated by ripe raspberry fruits and candied apples, followed by floral notes and nutmeg. The powerful nose leaves room for an elegant balance of intense fruit. The palate follows with aromas of sour cherries tart, red licorice and sweet tobacco. A long finish shows hints of cedar and cypress. It will be extraordinary to experience the evolution of this wine in the cellar that will surprise us positively as we get older. TENUTA DI ARCENO and THE PHILOSOPHY OF MICRO-CRU In the continuous search for exclusive and high quality products, in Arceno they have adopted the philosophy that in viticulture is defined as "micro-cru", that is, a further division of each vineyard into smaller sections, depending on the soil and the type of soil. Each micro-cru is characterized by varieties, clones, reindeer and good viticulture practices suitable for the soil. The care, harvest and vinification in each micro-cru take place separately and become the unique expression of that particular section of the vineyard. Only in the final stages of production are micro-crus come together to create unique blends. In the replanting of the vineyards, they elaborated detailed maps of the soil, topography and climate to get a complete overview of the complexity of the soils. To accommodate this characteristic complexity, the soil was then divided into 63 micro-crus. A cheenous work that is bearing excellent fruit!
