TASTING NOTES
Piesporter Treppchen 'am Fels' Trocken 2021 is a white wine made from Riesling grapes grown on a south-west facing vineyard at an altitude of between 110 and 195 metres above sea level. The blue slate soil provides a thermal balance between the heat accumulated during the day and the cooler temperatures at night, allowing the grapes to ripen properly even in cooler vintages. The vineyards, which have been planted for 60 years, benefit from the sunlight reflected by the Moselle River and are protected from the cold winds coming down from the valley. The grapes are harvested by hand in the third week of October when they are very ripe but free of botrytis. After gentle destemming and pressing in the cellar, the must undergoes cold settling overnight, followed by spontaneous fermentation. The wine is then aged on the lees for 8 months. On the nose it has aromas of orange, tangerine, smoke and flint, with hints of stone fruit emerging as the glass is swirled. The palate is concentrated, extremely clean, with a well-structured finish dominated by hints of slate.

Günther Steinmetz

Günther Steinmetz Discover Günther Steinmetz in the Mosel Valley and its fine wines in our online store The historic Steinmetz family, not originally from the region, moved to Brauneberg in 1930, where they established various businesses. In 1950, after the death of his father, Gunther decided to sell everything except the wine cellar. In 1978, Stefan Steinmetz was born. At the age of 21, he decided to relaunch the winery, following his father's traditional approach but with a more natural touch in viticulture and winemaking. Today, the company owns 13 hectares of land in the Central Mosel, divided into 60 separate plots, 94% of which are on steep slopes that can only be worked by hand. Stefan places great emphasis on the concept of terroir in his oenological approach, considering it almost an obsession and stating that his wines must be authentic and represent themselves rather than please everyone. Brauneberg in the Mosel is considered the sanctuary of Riesling, and the history of the Steinmetz winery is inextricably linked to this renowned wine region. For decades, the family has dedicated itself to the production of classic Riesling wines, favouring ripe and dry or semi-dry grapes, in contrast to the region's tendency to promote sweet wines. The harvests in Mosel are late and the long and natural spontaneous fermentations give Stefan's wines great complexity and a unique character. Vinification is spontaneous and is completed with malolactic fermentation. Stefan reads the terroir with extreme precision, adapting the vinification in wooden or steel barrels according to the characteristics of the soil, giving his wines authenticity and personality. At Vinoso.shop, you can easily and conveniently buy the wines of Günther Steinmetz, carefully selected by experts to guarantee quality and authenticity. Whether you are looking for a wine for a special evening or to enrich your personal wine cellar, the wines of Günther Steinmetz are an excellent choice for wine lovers.
