TASTING NOTES
The vineyards of the Estate L'Illuminata are located at an average altitude of 250 meters above sea level with south-west exposure and lying on sedimentary soil of Miocene origin, calcareous and sandy. The 2008 vintage was very difficult from an agricultural point of view and, specifically, for viticulture. The parasitic attacks, mainly of downy mildew and powdery mildew, have created persistent problems starting from mid-May throughout June and July, with some aftermath even in August. The damage, especially from the point of view, but fortunately not from the qualitative one, was considerable. Nevertheless, the data on ripening showed a slow but constant accumulation of sugars in the grapes, especially between the first and second ten days of September. At the harvest, the concentration of sugars was on average excellent and the acid picture reached an ideal balance. The fortunate climatic conditions of September and October and the excellent care of the vineyards made it possible to obtain excellent levels of ripeness for the grapes. Barolo Tebavio is a dense and well-extracted expression of Nebbiolo with tones of red fruit, plum, sweet vanilla and ground coffee. A rich and full-bodied 2008, full of notes of dried berries, spicy nuances and chocolate. Full body, round tannins. It needs at least four years to soften. The color is bright intense garnet red with slight orange reflections, the nose is broad, intense, with notes reminiscent of violet, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, cherry; the taste is full, harmonious, slightly dry with a persistent aftertaste with floral and licorice notes.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME Tebavio: with this name it was called in the 2nd century BC. the head of a population of Piedmont
