TASTING NOTES
The winter of 2020 in Bolgheri was characterised by mild temperatures and abundant rainfall. There were no issues related to frost, despite some nights in March where temperatures approached zero. Spring was warm, with normal precipitation that favoured steady plant development up to flowering. By mid-June, the last significant rains arrived before summer, which turned out to be hot and dry. New rainfall returned only at the end of August, accompanied by a drop in temperatures around mid-September. The grapes for the Campo alla Giostra 2020 were harvested at the end of September, when they were fully ripe to ensure maximum fruit potential. After selection in the vineyard, the grapes were brought to the winery for vinification. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with daily pump-overs to enhance colour and aroma extraction. Following this, malolactic fermentation occurs. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one-year-old) for 18 months, followed by an additional six months in bottle. This Campo alla Giostra Jeroboam 2020 is sold with its original wooden box, making it a perfect gift bottle to be opened on special occasions.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
The name Campo alla Giostra "dei cavalli" is in honor of the 20th general of Varenne, born in 1995, who was raised by Dubois in the stables of the Estate.
