TASTING NOTES
A solid Cabernet Sauvignon from Bolgheri 2019, this wine features a medium body, super-integrated and firm tannins, along with a long and flavourful finish. Beautifully crafted, it is refined and structured. Perfect to open in 2024, we anticipate it will have fantastic longevity thanks to its tannins. The winter of 2018 was very harsh, with several days where temperatures dropped below zero—an occurrence that is absolutely rare in Bolgheri. Frequent rains in March replenished the soil's water reserves, which had been drastically reduced by the previous season's drought. Budding occurred slightly later than usual, but the weather conditions from April onwards were exceptionally favourable, promoting growth and even leading to a slightly early flowering. The summer heat characteristic of the region lasted throughout July and into the first half of August, when some rain finally lowered temperatures. The beautiful weather continued until early October. The grapes for this Campo alla Giostra 2019 were harvested at full ripeness at the end of September to maximise the fruit potential. The selected grapes were then brought to the winery for vinification. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with daily pump-overs during the initial phase and then submerged cap fermentation to enhance colour and aroma extraction, prolonging maceration for about ten days. Malolactic fermentation occurs immediately after alcoholic fermentation. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one-year-old) and for 6 months in bottle. This Campo alla Giostra Magnum 2019 is sold with its original cardboard case, making it a perfect bottle to bring along when dining at friends' homes.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
The name Campo alla Giostra "dei cavalli" is in honor of the 20th general of Varenne, born in 1995, who was raised by Dubois in the stables of the Estate.
