TASTING NOTES
Tageto 2023 wine from Donna Olimpia 1898 represents an authentic expression of the Tuscan terroir, particularly from the Bolgheri area, renowned for its high-quality wines. The 2023 harvest in Bolgheri, especially at Donna Olimpia 1898, has proven to be a good vintage, surpassing the previous year. Despite a reduction in production caused by rain during flowering, the quality of the grapes has been excellent, achieving a perfect balance between technical and phenolic ripeness. Autumn saw light rains and above-average temperatures, while winter was mild with scarce precipitation. Budburst began after 20 March without frost, favouring vine development. Spring brought frequent rains that necessitated maintenance interventions to prevent fungal diseases. During flowering, the persistent rains compromised some inflorescences, reducing berry density but still maintaining good quality in the bunches. Summer experienced elevated temperatures, with July being particularly hot; however, August rains helped refresh the vineyards. This climatic condition slowed down the technical ripening of the grapes while favouring optimal phenolic maturation. The production per vine was approximately 7-8% below average, but the harvested grapes were healthy and well-structured, allowing for longer and more detailed winemaking practices. This wine is a blend that reflects the region's winemaking tradition, with a particular focus on sustainability and grape quality. The Tageto 2023 presents an intense ruby garnet colour enriched with violet reflections. On the nose, it offers a complex and broad bouquet with notes of small red fruits, pepper, chocolate, and liquorice, merging into perfect harmony. On the palate, the wine is round and well-structured, with soft tannins providing a pleasant taste persistence.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
According to legend, the Etruscan people who inhabited Tuscany learned from a mysterious boy named Tageto, born from the furrow of the plough used by Tarconte, how to cultivate the vine and olive tree.
