TASTING NOTES
The winter of 2020 in Bolgheri was characterised by mild temperatures and abundant rainfall. There were no issues related to frost, despite some nights in March when temperatures approached zero. Spring was warm, with normal precipitation that favoured regular plant development up to flowering. By mid-June, the last significant rains arrived before summer, which was hot and dry. New rainfall did not occur until the end of August, accompanied by a drop in temperatures towards mid-September. The grapes for the Campo alla Giostra 2020 were harvested at the end of September, when they were fully ripe to ensure maximum fruity potential. After being selected in the vineyard, the grapes were taken to the winery for vinification. The alcoholic fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with daily pump-overs to encourage the extraction of colour and aromas. Following this, malolactic fermentation occurred. The ageing process took place in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one-year-old) for 18 months, followed by an additional six months in bottle. This Campo alla Giostra Magnum 2020 is presented with its original cardboard case, making it a perfect bottle to bring along for dinner when visiting friends.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
The name Campo alla Giostra "dei cavalli" is in honor of the 20th general of Varenne, born in 1995, who was raised by Dubois in the stables of the Estate.
