TASTING NOTES
The Doolhof Single Vineyard Pinotage 2022 is an exceptional South African red wine from the renowned Wellington region, celebrated for its unique terroir and cool climate influenced by maritime breezes. This Pinotage is sourced from a single vineyard planted on moderately fertile hillside soils, which enhance the complexity and structure characteristic of this indigenous South African variety, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Visually, the wine exhibits an intense and bright ruby red colour, indicating good concentration and a well-balanced 2022 vintage. On the nose, it reveals rich and complex aromas of ripe red fruits such as blackberries and cherries, complemented by spicy notes of clove and black pepper, alongside an elegant hint of dark chocolate that adds depth and sophistication. On the palate, the 2022 Doolhof Pinotage presents a solid structure with soft tannins, perfectly balancing freshness and smoothness. The fruity and spicy flavours harmonise beautifully, culminating in a long, persistent finish with subtle earthy and coffee nuances that affirm the typicality of the variety and the Wellington terroir. This wine is enjoyable in its youth but also possesses good ageing potential. Doolhof Estate, located in the picturesque Bovlei valley beneath Bains Kloof Pass, is committed to sustainability and preserving local biodiversity through its participation in the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative. This dedication, combined with meticulous vineyard management and the expertise of winemaker Frederick Kühne, ensures high-quality wines that faithfully express the character of the terroir.

Doolhof

Doolhof Discover Doolhof in South Africa and its fine wines in our online store The Doolhof winery, located in the wine region of Wellington, South Africa, is a true paradise for wine lovers. Founded back in 1709, it combines history, tradition and innovation in a unique way. Thanks to an exceptional terroir and an ideal climate, it produces high-quality wines that authentically reflect its terroir. With a wide selection of varieties such as Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Doolhof stands for excellence and passion in the production of world-class wines. The winery covers about 380 hectares, located in the picturesque valley below the Bains Kloof pass, 60 kilometres from Cape Town. Of this, eighty hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of vineyards, while the rest is preserved as a nature area. With a history dating back three centuries, Doolhof has been the pearl of the Bovlei valley and has had several owners over time. The first vines were planted in 1995, and in 2005 the winery was granted estate status. Currently, owner Dennis Verrison shares his passion for wine and cricket. Winemaker Frederick Kühne, with experience at renowned wineries such as Jordan Winery in California and Chateau Palmer in Margaux, joined Doolhof in 2008. The winery is also involved in the Biodiversity in Wine Initiative project for the conservation of fynbos, a typical vegetation of the area.
