TASTING NOTES
The Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes Le Village 2021 by Edouard Delaunay is an elegant red wine from the prestigious Burgundy region of France. This wine exemplifies the unique terroir of Chambolle-Musigny, making it an ideal choice for connoisseurs of refined and complex Pinot Noir. The grapes are sourced from four distinct parcels—Les Chardannes, Les Herbues, Les Gamaires, and Aux Echanges—located in the northeastern part of the appellation. These vineyards lie at altitudes between 250 and 300 metres above sea level on deep clay-limestone soils. Proximity to Morey-Saint-Denis imparts a structural balance to the wine, combining elegance with power. The Pinot Noir grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve their quality and express the terroir fully. After meticulous vinification, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new, sourced from central France forests. This ageing process enhances its aromatic complexity and structure. The wine presents a deep, almost black colour, indicative of its concentration and depth. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet with notes of oak, black fruits such as raspberries and blackcurrants, burnt wood, and spices like turmeric, peppermint, and eucalyptus, alongside hints of fresh tobacco. On the palate, it is rich and enveloping, starting with a touch of sweetness that evolves into flavours of wild berries, ripe cherries, raspberries, and blood orange. Spicy undertones of ginger and cardamom emerge as well. The finish is vigorous, supported by refined tannins that promise excellent ageing potential. Edouard Delaunay has a storied history dating back to its founding in 1893. Revived in 2017 by Laurent Delaunay, a fifth-generation winemaker, the house is renowned for producing high-end wines that blend tradition with innovation. Laurent Delaunay's achievements include being named "Winemaker of the Year" for red wines in 2020 and white wines in 2021. This Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes Le Village 2021 is a remarkable wine that combines finesse with intensity and can be enjoyed young or cellared to develop further complexity over time.

Edouard Delaunay Discover Edouard Delaunay in Burgundy, and his fine wines in our online store The Delaunay family originates from western France and has been linked to the world of wine for generations. Since 1771, Edme Delaunay has been a sworn wine broker by royal decree, demonstrating the constant quest for excellence and ambition that has characterised the Maison over the years. In 1934, the family was one of the founders of the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Tastevin, thus confirming its leading role on the wine scene. Laurent Delaunay, the fifth generation of the family, decided to rediscover and enhance the history of the Maison, reacquiring it in 2017 and bringing it back to the top of the great négociants of Burgundy. Thanks to the careful vinification and ageing of wines from the region's best terroirs, the Maison Edouard Delaunay has regained its prestige and continues to be a benchmark in the wine world.
