KELLERBERG
Wachau
GRAPE VARIETY
Grüner Veltliner 100%
TASTING NOTES
Cru Kellerberg is the example of a first-rate vineyard in the Wachau region. The vines grow on terraces facing south and are made up of natural stones that support the soils of seasoned gneiss and some layers of Loess at the bottom of the slope. A long period of vegetation caused by the flow of fresh air in the nights helps to have a very late harvests. Thanks to this peculiar type of microclimate, we can get these exclusive Grüner Veltliners, which combine refinement and power in an inimitable way. Often the wines are both smoky and earthy but also delicate and savory. The vines are 30 years old and the grapes are harvested manually at the beginning of November, are fermented naturally and aged for 10 months in large oak barrels. The resulting wine has notes of citrus, pear pulp and miso that delicately run through the nose. The beautiful structure in the mouth, supported by a fragrant acidity, recalls the rusty peel of the pear and is rich in salty yeast. The pinch of pepper on the finish just increases the charm of this wine with a long and intense finish. Since 2017 these lands have been worked following the guidelines of organic viticulture while the wine and the cellar are certified organic since 2019 - AT-BIO 402.

Discover Cantina Pichler-Krutzler in the Wachau region and its fine wines in our online store
In 2006 Elisabeth Pichler and Erich Krutzler founded their winery in the Wachau region. Both come from families belonging to the wine world, they have created together unique wines with a noble soul, based on respect for nature, through sustainable viticulture. Pichler-Krutzler wines reflect the territory from which they come. These are wines harvested, refined and bottled without any assembly. The vineyards, mainly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, extend over stone terraces and can only be cultivated by hand. This is where a particular microclimate is created, influenced by the front, by the mild temperatures of Pannonia from the east by the cold winds that blow down from the valleys. The Wachau region, where these unique and quality wines are born, is in fact a real jewel recognized as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
