PREMIER CRU
Steirische Terroirs & Klassik Weinguter
GRAPE VARIETY
Sauvignon Blanc
TASTING NOTES
Tement's former Grassnitzberg comes with a new name, as the family opted for a particular appellation for the coolest part of the 80-hectare single vineyard, located on a 16-million-year-old coral limestone shelf in the southeast-facing Erste Lage (premier cru). Ried Grassnitzberg was the first vineyard owned by the family, the first vineyard that founder Josef Tement planted. In this vineyard the grapes reach their full maturity much later than in all the other vineyards, and it is precisely this slow and long ripening that gives it aromas and structure decidedly typical of the Grassnizberg terroir. After spontaneous fermentation and a 24-month aging in oak barrels, the wine is bottled unfiltered. This Sauvignon impresses with deep mineral and citrus aromas, salted caper and black currant. Lots of lime spices are present, leaving an everlasting flavor. Warm lemon, black currant and apricot. Delicate and fresh, with a gentle minerality and a mouthwatering finish. Can be drunk young, but we recommend bottle aging of 3-5 years. Potential for long aging. Drink from 2025-2037.

The Weingut Tement winery is located in the Southern Styria region, also named the green lung of Austria. The property is located among vineyards climbing in the middle of the forest, from which you can admire a breathtaking view. At the age of 19, in 1972, Manfred Tement inherited a small portion of the vineyard from his father. Today the property extends over 85 hectares and the management is entrusted to Armin and Stefan Tement who represent the third generation and have been able to create a perfect balance between tradition and innovation. The modern winery, built in 2001, overlooks about 50 hectares of vineyards on the Slovenian side from above, cultivated in organic and eco-sustainable way. The grapes are harvested by hand in several different steps to obtain them fully ripe and perfectly healthy. The soils have calcareous origin and contain marine sediments , giving life to elegant and mineral wines. The most widespread variety is Sauvignon Blanc , which represents 60% of the entire property. The other varieties are Gelber Muskateller , Morillon, Weissburgunder and Gewürztraminer . White wines represent 96% of the total production, reds ( Blauer Zweigelt and Pinot Nero ) 3%, sweet wines 1%.
