TASTING NOTES
The 2017 harvest in this area had hot conditions and little rain, starting from the winter season. The weather stayed warm from June to August, with some periods of drought. Thunderstorms and an abrupt cooling happened in September, differing from the usual temperature range. Despite the tough climate, vines in the production area coped well with the stress. Phenomena occurred earlier than in previous years: Buds appeared at the end of March and flowers bloomed a few days earlier than usual. Veraison (ripening) was average, having occurred on the 5th August. The hot August weather made the grapes ripen faster, leading to the harvest of Corvina grapes starting in the initial week of September, marking a difference of 10 days from last year. Sugar levels and total acidity were higher, while malic acid content was lower, indicating the warm vintage. The hot and arid weather also prevented diseases like downy mildew and botrytis from developing. The Amarone San Giorgio 2017 is a deep wine with great extract. A lively, intense red with vigorous tannins of good maturity. With an important alcohol component, and crisp, intense and penetrating fruit aromas. An exceptional vintage of Amarone della Valpolicella: great character and excellent evolutionary potential, deservedly among the best vintages of Amarone della Valpolicella. It is an excellent accompaniment to structured dishes such as roast meats, game, mature cheeses and braised meats. It should be served at room temperature, better if placed in a carafe and decanted a few hours beforehand.
