TASTING NOTES
The 2022 harvest in Valpolicella experienced a unique climate that influenced both the quality and quantity of the grapes collected. Following a mild winter and a spring with abundant rainfall, the summer brought elevated temperatures and significant drought. However, the rains in August played a crucial role, allowing the grapes to reach optimal levels of ripeness. The harvest began at the end of September, with particular attention given to the manual selection of grapes, especially the varieties Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. These grapes, cultivated in the upper part of the estate known as La Preosa, come from the classic zone of Valpolicella, renowned for the quality of its grapes and its favourable microclimate. Despite the challenges posed by drought, the quality of the grapes proved to be excellent, thanks to favourable phytosanitary conditions and a final maturation phase without significant issues. The Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC La Preosa 2022 was vinified with a fermentation lasting about 20 days, involving three daily pump-overs and two applications of the French technique known as délestage. The wine matured for one year in large 1500-litre oak barrels. It showcases an intense red colour with shifting tones that evolve over time. On the nose, it reveals hints of spices and sweet notes like vanilla, alongside ripe exotic fruits such as mango and papaya. On the palate, it offers good structure and great balance. This wine pairs perfectly with red meats and game. It is recommended to serve it at room temperature, preferably in a decanter and allowed to breathe for half an hour before serving. Thus, the 2022 harvest is shaping up to be a promising vintage for Valpolicella wines, with quality results reflecting the producers' skill in managing climatic challenges.
