Pouilly-Fumé is a white wine produced exclusively from Sauvignon grapes. The terroir of Pouilly-Fumé spans seven communes, including Garchy, Mesves-sur-Loire, Pouilly-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain, Saint-Laurent-l'Abbaye, Saint-Martin-sur-Nohain, and Tracy-sur-Loire. The two hectares of vineyards where this wine is crafted are situated on Kimmeridgian clay-limestone marl soils. The Pouilly-Fumé 2023 from Domaine de Terres Blanches is a high-quality white wine made in the renowned Loire region of France. This vintage stands out due to the ideal climatic conditions that allowed for a harvest of fresh and fruity grapes, occurring between September 7 and 19. The winery, part of Maison Saget La Perrière, is recognised for its commitment to producing authentic wines that reflect their terroir. The year 2023 was exceptional for viticulture in the Pouilly-Fumé region. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes were cultivated on unique limestone soils that impart a distinctive minerality to the wines. Vinification occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging on fine lees for three to four months, enhancing the wine's complexity and texture. The predominant Sauvignon Blanc variety in this area is celebrated for its fresh and aromatic characteristics. Pouilly-Fumé wines are often noted for their mineral and fruity notes, with an aromatic profile that may include hints of citrus, white flowers, and smoky minerals. This particular wine perfectly expresses these characteristics. Visually, it presents a beautiful golden hue with green reflections, indicative of its youth. On the nose, it reveals an expressive bouquet of peach, citrus, and white flowers, accompanied by elegant minerality. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with a citrus character that lingers through a long mineral finish. This balance between freshness and complexity renders the wine particularly refined. Domaine de Terres Blanches is considered a new gem in the Loire wine landscape, dedicated to producing organic and low-intervention wines.
