TASTING NOTES
Clos des Ormes is a prestigious Premier Cru located in Morey-Saint-Denis, renowned for its exclusive production of Pinot Noir. This vineyard, spanning three hectares, is distinguished by its rich and structured wines, characterised by earthy notes and cherry flavours. It lies at the foot of the Côte d'Or slope, nestled between the Premier Cru vineyards of Aux Charmes to the north and Les Charrières to the south. The name "Clos des Ormes" derives from the elm trees that once populated the area, now long gone. The terroir of Clos des Ormes consists of clay-limestone and rocky soils, which provide excellent drainage and shallow depth. These characteristics favour high-quality viticulture: the vines, compelled to seek water deeper in the soil, produce smaller, more concentrated berries rather than excessive foliage. In the glass, the Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes presents a deep red colour, indicative of the maturity of the grapes and the care taken in vinification. The bouquet is incredibly complex; initially, one can perceive aromas of cherries and fresh strawberries, which evolve with ageing into richer and more oaky tones typical of high-quality Burgundy wines. Over time, spicier fragrances also emerge, further enriching the aromatic profile. On the palate, the Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes 2021 offers a balanced and refined tasting experience. Its elegant structure is complemented by well-integrated tannins that provide a sense of softness. The freshness is evident, making the wine approachable even at a young age while maintaining significant ageing potential. This wine lends itself to numerous gastronomic pairings: it is ideal with red meat dishes such as roasts or game and also pairs well with aged cheeses. Its aromatic complexity makes it a perfect companion for rich and savoury dishes. In conclusion, Clos des Ormes embodies the elegance and refinement of Burgundy. With its complex aromatic profile and harmonious structure, it represents an excellent choice for lovers of Pinot Noir and those wishing to explore the wonders of Burgundian viticulture.
