Vigna del Pruno 2020 is an extraordinary red wine produced entirely from Sangiovese grapes. This wine represents the historic cru of Tenuta La Palazza, located in the heart of the Predappio terroir, and perfectly embodies the excellence of Romagnolo winemaking tradition. The story of Vigna del Pruno began in the 1980s when Count Claudio Drei Donà took over the management of the family estate, implementing a radical shift to enhance its potential. Since then, Vigna del Pruno has demonstrated that Sangiovese can become a "long-lived wine," capable of ageing beautifully over time. This reserve is made by selecting the finest grapes from the vineyard that bears its name and is considered an iconic wine of the estate. Vigna del Pruno stands out for its strong character and lasting elegance. It is produced following a philosophy of patience: after harvest, the wine rests for a year and a half in Allier and Tronçais tonneaux and barriques, as well as being aged in terracotta amphorae. This lengthy maturation process is essential to enhance the wine's organoleptic characteristics and ensure timeless elegance. The name Vigna del Pruno is inspired by one of the horses from the Drei Donà family's stable. Pruno was a large, reliable Maremma horse, much like the wine that shares its name. Both require time and dedication to be fully appreciated. Sensory-wise, Vigna del Pruno 2020 presents an intense and complex aromatic profile. Notes of underbrush fruit, chinotto, and a beautiful balsamic trace can be perceived. On the palate, the wine is broad, dense, and crisp, with a refined tannic texture that makes it one of the benchmarks of its type. This wine pairs perfectly with rich and structured dishes, making it ideal for special occasions.
