TASTING NOTES
The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino from Poggio Antico is a wine that stands out for its quality and connection to the territory. Sourced from vineyards located on the heights of Brunello, at over 500 metres above sea level, this wine benefits from a unique microclimate. The constant ventilation, influenced by proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea, helps keep the grapes fresh, promoting balanced and healthy maturation. The 2022 vintage was characterised by favourable climatic conditions, with a good distribution of rainfall and temperatures that allowed for optimal maturation of the Sangiovese grapes. Average yields were 55 quintals per hectare, and the agricultural method employed is fully organic, thus ensuring soil vitality and grape quality. Poggio Antico is situated in the highest area of the Montalcino denomination, which imparts a unique freshness and complexity to its wines. The diversity of soils is highlighted through the "Soil Units" approach, which segments the 37 hectares of the estate into distinctive micro-terroirs. This method not only reflects the variety of the Tuscan landscape but also allows for the best expression of Sangiovese characteristics. The Rosso di Montalcino is produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, the emblematic variety of Tuscany. This wine presents a bright ruby red colour with purple reflections. On the nose, it expresses fresh notes of red fruits, such as cherries and raspberries, accompanied by a subtle spicy nuance. On the palate, it offers a balanced structure with soft tannins and a persistent finish. The typical freshness of the vintage makes this wine particularly versatile in food pairings. The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino offers a rich and complex aromatic bouquet, with scents ranging from red berry fruits to delicate spicy notes. On the palate, it reveals elegance and harmony, with a good balance between acidity and sweet tannins. It is a wine that can be enjoyed young but also has an interesting ageing potential. Poggio Antico is renowned not only for the quality of its wines but also for its commitment to environmental sustainability. The estate adopts certified organic farming practices and uses natural manure to maintain soil fertility.
