TASTING NOTES
The Sekt Brut Riesling Alte Reben Trocken 2020 is a sparkling wine produced from old Riesling vines, which are about 70 years old and cultivated without rootstock. The vineyard slopes are very steep, varying from 45° to 65°, which makes mechanisation impossible. The soils are east-southeast, south, south-southwest and the soil is mainly composed of deep blue slate with a large presence of quartz. The Riesling grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of September and gently pressed to avoid excessive extraction of tannins from the skin and stalks. The must ferments spontaneously in stainless steel tanks and then matures in 1,000-litre oak barrels before being bottled. The second fermentation takes place according to the Champenoise Method, and after 10 months of maturation on the yeast, the bottles are ready for dosage and disgorgement. The wine displays a persistent and delicate perlage, with aromatic notes of fruit such as apple, pineapple and ripe citrus fruits, accompanied by hints of smoke and brioche. In the mouth, it is juicy and consistent with the olfactory notes, with a long finish characterised by marble-like acidity and a salty, slate-influenced minerality. The Sekt Brut Riesling Alte Reben Trocken 2020 offers a distinctive combination of freshness, juiciness and sophisticated complexity.

The historic Steinmetz family, not originally from the region, moved to Brauneberg in 1930, where they established various businesses. In 1950, after the death of his father, Gunther decided to sell everything except the wine cellar. In 1978, Stefan Steinmetz was born. At the age of 21, he decided to relaunch the winery, following his father's traditional approach but with a more natural touch in viticulture and winemaking. Today, the company owns 13 hectares of land in the Central Mosel, divided into 60 separate plots, 94% of which are on steep slopes that can only be worked by hand. Stefan places great emphasis on the concept of terroir in his oenological approach, considering it almost an obsession and stating that his wines must be authentic and represent themselves rather than please everyone. Brauneberg in the Mosel is considered the sanctuary of Riesling, and the history of the Steinmetz winery is inextricably linked to this renowned wine region. For decades, the family has dedicated itself to the production of classic Riesling wines, favouring ripe and dry or semi-dry grapes, in contrast to the region's tendency to promote sweet wines. The harvests in Mosel are late and the long and natural spontaneous fermentations give Stefan's wines great complexity and a unique character. Vinification is spontaneous and is completed with malolactic fermentation. Stefan reads the terroir with extreme precision, adapting the vinification in wooden or steel barrels according to the characteristics of the soil, giving his wines authenticity and personality. At Vinoso.shop, you can easily and conveniently buy the wines of Günther Steinmetz, carefully selected by experts to guarantee quality and authenticity. Whether you are looking for a wine for a special evening or to enrich your personal wine cellar, the wines of Günther Steinmetz are an excellent choice for wine lovers.
