GRAPE VARIETY
Riesling 100%
TASTING NOTES
Bottled with 18 grams of residual sugar per liter, Rheingau Riesling Tradition 2021 is the non-dry version of the estate's dry Riesling or Trocken. It opens with clear, aromatic red currant fruit, and is light and fresh on the palate. It is a round, fresh and savory Riesling, full in the mouth and pleasant on the palate, with stimulating salinity and phenolic grip. Wilhelm Weil is enthusiastic about the 2021 vintage. He said in late September that it was possible to harvest "healthy, extract-rich" grapes, resulting in "dense cool-climate Rieslings" after the previous three hot vintages (2018-2020). The surprising acidity of the vintage is well buffered by the potassium stored in the grapes. This was not to be expected in the fall, as the vintage had been cool and rainy. Weil is convinced that the 2021 vintage will be celebrated in a few years and a few decades as one of the greatest and believes he has yet to produce a better Riesling than this one. Very suitable for spicy and savory cooking, but also perfect as a stand-alone glass. The grapes of Robert Weil Rheingau come from the areas surrounding the prestigious Kiedrich Gräfenberg. The soil is predominantly rocky, composed of phyllites and loess, interspersed with clay areas. The vineyards, facing southwest, reach slopes of 60%.
