TASTING NOTES
The 2024 harvest has been very positive thanks to favourable climatic conditions. The abundant rainfall has ensured excellent health for the grapes, preventing water stress and wilting phenomena. With an average sugar content of 194 g/l, close to the optimal values for the aromatic expression of Moscato, this vintage could be one of the best in recent years. Roberto Garbarino's Moscato d'Asti DOCG Hiku embodies the excellence of Piedmontese winemaking tradition, crafted from Moscato Bianco grapes sourced from a 4-hectare vineyard located at 500 metres above sea level, fully south-facing. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, yield a very low output of only 55 hl per hectare, contributing to a high concentration of aromas and a pronounced acidity that is often lacking in other wines of this type. After a gentle pressing, the musts are clarified using cold in stainless steel tanks. They are then transferred to autoclaves for fermentation at a controlled and very low temperature, which enhances the typical aromas of Moscato, such as hawthorn and jasmine. The bottled wine features a high residual sugar level of 130 g/l and a low alcohol content, with a fine perlage that enriches the tasting experience. The Moscato d'Asti Hiku 2024 stands out for its freshness and is not cloying due to its high acidity. Floral notes are complemented by hints of orange blossom and distinct herbal nuances, particularly sage. This combination makes it an elegant and aromatic wine. Perfect for pairing with desserts such as Panettone or Colomba, fruit tarts, and dried fruits, Hiku also pairs well with savoury dishes. It is particularly suited to prosciutto with figs or melon but also surprises when matched with fresh salami and spicy dishes typical of Indian and Thai cuisine.
