GRAPE VARIETY

TASTING NOTES
The 2012 vintage is reminiscent of the phenomenal vintages of 1990 or 1996, but the harvest was something of a miracle. Nature made us fear the worst with a series of weather events that represented a potential catastrophe for the vineyards. The spring brought violent mildew attacks, torrential rains, hailstorms and cold snaps during flowering, followed by sunburn and water stress that dropped yields by 30 percent. But a beautiful and sunny August allowed slow ripening and good concentration of the grapes, resulting in a late harvest. The grapes turned out to be of excellent quality: rich in sugar and with good acidity. Charles Heidsieck considers 2012 a classic vintage in the noblest sense of the term. The cuvée captivates with its power, generosity and structure, combined with softness and remarkable freshness. Produced from a precise selection of eleven Grands and Premiers Crus, this assembled rosé boasts lushness and elegance and will age gracefully for many years. Minerality, complexity, grandeur are the main characteristics of the vintage. A magnificent golden and coppery robe gives tangerine reflections with a delicate and dynamic effervescence. The initial nose is an invitation to indulgence with ripe fruit and toasty, smoky notes reminiscent of the wine's mineral soil of origin, then gives way to a riot of fruity notes of pomegranate, blackthorn, quince and fresh almonds with a touch of blueberry. The palate attack is frank with abundant freshness, a signature of its noble composition. The mid-palate carries notes of quince, white pepper and vineyard peaches. With a well-balanced tannic structure, the finish is silky.
