TASTING NOTES
The 2012 vintage is reminiscent of the phenomenal vintages of 1990 or 1996, but the harvest was something of a miracle. Nature made us fear the worst with a series of weather events that represented a potential catastrophe for the vineyards. The spring brought violent mildew attacks, torrential rains, hailstorms and cold snaps during flowering, followed by sunburn and water stress that dropped yields by 30 percent. But a beautiful and sunny August allowed slow ripening and good concentration of the grapes, resulting in a late harvest. The grapes turned out to be of excellent quality: rich in sugar and with good acidity. Charles Heidsieck considers 2012 a classic vintage in the noblest sense of the term. The cuvée captivates with its power, generosity and structure, combined with softness and remarkable freshness. Produced from a precise selection of eleven Grands and Premiers Crus, this assembled rosé boasts lushness and elegance and will age gracefully for many years. Minerality, complexity, grandeur are the main characteristics of the vintage. A magnificent golden and coppery robe gives tangerine reflections with a delicate and dynamic effervescence. The initial nose is an invitation to indulgence with ripe fruit and toasty, smoky notes reminiscent of the wine's mineral soil of origin, then gives way to a riot of fruity notes of pomegranate, blackthorn, quince and fresh almonds with a touch of blueberry. The palate attack is frank with abundant freshness, a signature of its noble composition. The mid-palate carries notes of quince, white pepper and vineyard peaches. With a well-balanced tannic structure, the finish is silky.

Charles Heidsieck Discover the Maison Charles Heidsieck and its fine Champagnes in our online store Charles Camille Heidsieck was born in 1822, 37 years after his great-uncle founded Champagne Heidsieck et Cie House. The young Charles grew up in an environment where one breathed the air of champagne from an early age. At just 29, he took his destiny into his own hands and founded the Maison Charles Heidsieck , buying 47 crayères in which to vinify the grapes grown by his cousin Ernest Henriot. The 19th Century was the era of great discoveries and Charles immediately revealed himself to be a visionary, innovative and highly intelligent man. He became ambassador of his own Maison and, consequently, of all of France. During his travels, Charles Heidsieck embodied contemporary French glamor and distinguished himself as a free spirit with an innate kindness. Charles was a man with an elegant and clean charm, he conquered America and seduced the bourgeoisie of New York, becoming the legendary "Champagne Charlie" . More than 160 years after its creation, the Maison remains a family business driven by the enterprising, ambitious and courageous spirit of the founder. The Champagnes Charles Heidsieck enjoys absolute fame. The unique style, characterized by a high percentage of reserve wines, is what gives balance to the Maison's cuvée sans année. The selected grapes give, together with the original Crus, complexity to the final product. Vinified vine by vine, they allow a precise selection of each wine in which one brings its touch of depth, the other its share of softness. The separate vinification allows precision and great refinement in the construction of flavors.
