TASTING NOTES
Wellington is located about 60 km from Cape Town, in the coastal region of the Western Cape, where the terroir positively influences the quality of the Chenin Blanc produced by the Doolhof winery. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, which is ideal for the cultivation of grape varieties such as Chenin Blanc, and the fertile, well-drained soils favour the quality of the grapes. The Doolhof vineyards, located at the foot of the Limietberg mountain range, benefit from an altitude that favours slow ripening of the grapes, helping to maintain acidity and develop finer aromas in the wine. Wellington's microclimate, with cooling breezes, ensures excellent ripeness of the Chenin Blanc grapes, resulting in wines with structure, freshness and aromatic complexity. Harvesting is done manually and the must ferments partially in old French oak and stainless steel barrels, then matures on the lees for 3 months. The result is a high quality Chenin Blanc with aromas of tropical fruit, quince, apricots and pears, with a rich and savoury palate, supported by brilliant acidity. This premium clone SN 24 is known to produce very high quality wines with distinctive aromas.

Doolhof Discover Doolhof in South Africa and its fine wines in our online store The Doolhof winery, located in the wine region of Wellington, South Africa, is a true paradise for wine lovers. Founded back in 1709, it combines history, tradition and innovation in a unique way. Thanks to an exceptional terroir and an ideal climate, it produces high-quality wines that authentically reflect its terroir. With a wide selection of varieties such as Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Doolhof stands for excellence and passion in the production of world-class wines. The winery covers about 380 hectares, located in the picturesque valley below the Bains Kloof pass, 60 kilometres from Cape Town. Of this, eighty hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of vineyards, while the rest is preserved as a nature area. With a history dating back three centuries, Doolhof has been the pearl of the Bovlei valley and has had several owners over time. The first vines were planted in 1995, and in 2005 the winery was granted estate status. Currently, owner Dennis Verrison shares his passion for wine and cricket. Winemaker Frederick Kühne, with experience at renowned wineries such as Jordan Winery in California and Chateau Palmer in Margaux, joined Doolhof in 2008. The winery is also involved in the Biodiversity in Wine Initiative project for the conservation of fynbos, a typical vegetation of the area.
