TASTING NOTES
Il Tornese 2024 by Drei Donà is a premium white wine that embodies the innovative vision and passion of the historic Tenuta La Palazza, nestled in the gentle hills of Massa di Vecchiazzano, Romagna. This distinguished wine is crafted from a skilful blend of 55% Chardonnay and 45% Rhine Riesling, two international grape varieties that together express the unique terroir of this region. The vineyards benefit from clay soils interspersed with limestone veins, imparting notable minerality and structure to the wine. The 2024 vintage enjoyed favourable climatic conditions, allowing for optimal ripening of the grapes, which were hand-harvested in late August in two separate passes to preserve freshness and aromatic complexity. The vinification process includes a cold maceration on the skins for 15-18 hours, followed by separate fermentations in stainless steel and French oak tonneaux (10% of the Chardonnay). The wine then matures on its fine lees for 3-4 months, with a further bottle ageing of at least three months, resulting in a harmonious balance and finesse. Visually, Il Tornese 2024 presents a brilliant straw yellow colour, clear and luminous. On the nose, it reveals a complex and refined bouquet, featuring Mediterranean fruit notes such as apricot and apple, enriched by spicy hints of ginger and cardamom, alongside subtle vanilla nuances from oak ageing. On the palate, it is fresh, harmonious, and well-structured, with a pleasant acidity and vibrant minerality that balance the softness of the Chardonnay. The finish is long, elegant, and enveloping. The story of Drei Donà is steeped in passion and innovation. Claudio Drei Donà, the visionary founder in the 1980s, was among the first in Romagna to plant Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, aiming to craft wines with an international appeal. Il Tornese, awarded the prestigious Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso in 1998 as Italy’s best white wine, remains a symbol of excellence and originality in the Romagnolo wine landscape. This wine pairs perfectly with fish dishes, shellfish, and vegetarian cuisine, offering a tasting experience that marries tradition with modernity. The quality-to-price ratio is very attractive, with an indicative cost of around €14 per 75cl bottle. For those seeking a characterful, elegant, and versatile Romagna white, Il Tornese 2024 Drei Donà is the ideal choice, telling the story of a terroir’s strength and a family’s legacy of passionate innovation and respect for their land.

Drei Donà Discover the Drei Donà Winery in Emilia-Romagna and its fine wines in our online store The Tenuta La Palazza was built between the cities of Forlì and Predappio in a strategic position between the valleys of the Montone and Rabbi rivers, around one of the watchtowers that Caterina Sforza ordered to build to defend her possessions. The estate, owned by the Counts Drei Donà since 1923, has always been dedicated to the production of Sangiovese grapes. The company underwent a radical transformation in 1979, when Claudio Drei Donà took over the management, together with his son Enrico. Of the 23 hectares cultivated under organic farming, the majority is dedicated to the Sangiovese vineyards from which the classic Predappio Doc "Notturno" and the Riserva "Vigna del Pruno ” are produced. The futurist vision of Count Claudio also gave birth to "Il Tornese" , the first great white wine from international grapes in Romagna and the red "Magnificat" , a "single vineyard" from the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard planted in this region. The particular names of the wines deserve a mention: in fact, they were baptized with the names of the horses of the small family breeding farm.
