TASTING NOTES
The grapes destined for the production of Vèlia 2020 wine are carefully selected in the vineyard and hand-harvested between late August and early September. After a brief cold soak, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. The obtained must ferments in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. At the end of fermentation, the wine is racked into French oak tonneaux, where it remains in contact with the fine lees for at least 8 months. The aging continues for an additional 16 months in large Slavonian oak casks and concludes with 10 months in bottle. From a visual standpoint, the wine presents a straw yellow color with bright golden reflections. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet with tropical notes of slightly ripe yellow fruit, melon and pineapple, accompanied by hints of candied citrus, mimosa, butter and honey. On the palate, Vèlia offers a pleasant creaminess and persistence that culminates in a well-integrated, savory finish.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
The name Vèlia symbolizes the element of water; it derives from the Latin word "palude" (swamp). The city of Velletri, founded in a marshy area, takes its name from Velia, thus highlighting the wealth of water in the territory.
