TASTING NOTES
The Südtirol - Alto Adige Doc Kerner 2024 from Winzerberg represents an oenological excellence that fully reflects the character of the Alto Adige region. This mountainous region, with vineyards situated between 600 and 800 metres above sea level in the Isarco Valley and on the Renon, offers ideal conditions for cultivating Kerner. The light, gravelly and sandy soils of the highest and sun-exposed slopes promote the late ripening of the grapes. The climate of Alto Adige, characterised by a significant temperature range between day and night, combines sunny days with cool nights thanks to mountain winds. This thermal contrast allows the grapes to develop intense aromas while maintaining a lively acidity, an essential element for the balance and freshness of this wine. The 2024 vintage was challenging for winegrowers due to a cool and rainy spring that delayed ripening, followed by a hot summer and autumnal rains. However, thanks to the expertise of the Alto Adige producers, the grapes have reached an excellent quality, giving life to delicate and fresh white wines. The grapes undergo careful selection, soft pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation, and mature in steel tanks to maintain the wine's freshness. In the glass, this Kerner 2024 from Winzerberg presents a bright straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections. On the nose, it is intense and aromatic, with hints of peach and apricot and spicy notes reminiscent of nutmeg. The taste is dry, full-bodied, sapid and fresh. This wine pairs well with light starters, cold meats, egg or mushroom-based dishes, freshwater fish and seafood, and is excellent as an aperitif.
