TASTING NOTES
The village of Nuits-Saint-Georges on the Côte de Nuits is renowned for producing a wide range of quality wines. The vineyards to the north of the village, near Vosne-Romanée, grow on clay soils and produce generous, structured wines. Those to the south, on the other hand, grow on stony soils, giving the wines a lively and bold character, enriched with mineral notes. This duality between the two characteristics is essential for a Nuits-Saint-Georges Villages of excellent quality and great ageing potential. This cuvée, which comes from three plots to the north and south of the village, combines finesse, minerality, power and richness. The grapes are harvested by hand, selected in the cellar, destemmed and then fermented. During fermentation, the must is pumped over and punched down. Maceration lasts for 15 days before the wine is drawn off and aged for 14 months in oak barrels, 10% of which are new. The Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes 2018 presents itself in the glass with an intense, bright purplish red colour. The nose is fresh and refined, typical of Côte de Nuits wines, with notes of black cherry and spices. On the palate, it has a velvety texture, a full body and an excellent balance between maturity and acidity. Aromas of black fruit, wild plum, bark, hazelnut and coffee emerge, mingled with nuances of spices, incense, beeswax and dark chocolate. The tannins are firm at the moment, but promise to soften and develop with age.
