TASTING NOTES
The Gewurztraminer Réserve 2023 from Gustave Lorentz is a high-quality white wine hailing from the renowned region of Alsace, France. This vintage stands out for its authentic expression of the Gewurztraminer grape, celebrated for its intense aromas and rich body. The 2023 harvest benefited from favourable climatic conditions, allowing for optimal ripening of the grapes. The result is a wine with a complex aromatic profile and balanced freshness. While specific ratings for this vintage are not yet available, Gustave Lorentz wines have historically received positive acclaim from critics. The vineyards are located on the gentle hills of Altenberg, near the picturesque village of Bergheim, an area characterised by a unique terroir that combines clay-limestone soils with an ideal microclimate for Gewurztraminer cultivation. The winemaking tradition of the Lorentz family spans over 250 years, emphasising quality and sustainability. Gewurztraminer is known for its distinctive aromas of tropical fruit, roses, and spices, making it one of the most aromatic grape varieties in the world. This wine presents a bright straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections, typical of the varietal. Vinification occurs without barrel aging, preserving the freshness of the grapes. Visually, it showcases a straw-yellow hue with greenish tints. On the nose, it offers elegant floral aromas, alongside fresh fruit notes like lychee and apricot, complemented by spicy undertones. On the palate, it delivers a warm and enveloping attack, with good acidity that provides length and freshness. The body is full and intense, rendering it a complex yet elegant wine. This Gewurztraminer pairs perfectly with aperitifs, fresh cheeses, dry desserts, and pastries. Its versatility also makes it suitable for accompanying dishes featuring white meat or spicy cuisine. The Gustave Lorentz winery is currently managed by the seventh generation of the Lorentz family and has received significant accolades over the years. Their vineyards were classified as "Grand Cru" in 1983, attesting to the exceptional quality of their wines. Notably, Alsace represents an excellence in French wine but also holds the record as the greenest region in the country. Statistics reveal that 10% of the vineyard areas employ sexual confusion techniques (a method that reduces reliance on insecticides), while 25% are certified organic, with an additional 50% on their way to achieving Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3 certification.
