GEWURZTRAMINER RESERVE
Appellation d'origine contrôlée
GRAPE VARIETY
Gewurztraminer 100%
TASTING NOTES
This Gewurztraminer is located in the south / south-east, facing the slopes of Bergheim where the soil is strongly calcareous. The marly and calcareous residues on the surface allow this naturally late variety to mature evenly, even during the dry summer period. Thanks to the soil, the 2020 harvest, anticipated throughout Alsace, here was almost in line with the previous vintages, giving even better wines than the 2019 harvest. The cool days of early June also lengthened the flowering period and then resettle the time of collection. In its first two years in the bottle floral scents predominate, while with the passing of the years in the bottle the fantastic mineral scents given by the calcareous soil take over. Traditionally it is enjoyed as an aperitif, with cheeses with an intense flavor, or with desserts. However, giving it time and therefore maturity, it goes perfectly with lobster. Gewurztraminer is very pleasant if tasted young, but has an excellent aging potential (from 10 to 15 years in the best years). As a note, we remind you that Alsace represents an excellence of French wine, but it is also the record holder for the greenest region in the country. The numbers speak for themselves: 10% of the surfaces are treated with sexual confusion (a technique that suppresses the use of insecticides), 25% of the surfaces are certified BIO to which is added a 50% in the course of Haute Valeur certification Environmental level 3.

In Alsace, more precisely in the village of Bergheim, the Lorentz family has been involved in wine production for 250 years . In fact, in 1863 Charles Lorentz founded the winery moved by an incredible passion for the wine world. The vineyards are located on the hills of Altenberg de Bergheim and Kanzlerberg . It is thanks to a great passion handed down from generation to generation that the company still maintains very high quality levels today. According to the production philosophy, the essence of the wines is the result of the intimate and close relationship between vines, territory and climate. Currently the property includes 33 hectares and is entrusted to the sixth generation of the Lorentz family. Riesling , Pinot Grigio , Gewürztraminer and other varieties in the Altenberg hills express their typicality, year after year. The recognition for this perseverance took place in 1983, with the classification of these vineyards as " Gran Cru ".
