TASTING NOTES
The Gustave Lorentz Pinot Noir Réserve 2022 originates from the heart of Alsace, crafted by a historic winery founded in 1836 and nestled in the picturesque village of Bergheim. Now managed by the seventh generation of the Lorentz family, the estate oversees 33 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious Grand Cru plots such as Altenberg de Bergheim and Kanzlerberg. These vineyards benefit from sunny slopes with limestone and clay soils, ideal for expressing the distinctive character of Alsace’s grape varieties. The Pinot Noir Réserve is a carefully crafted entry-level wine made from grapes grown in vineyards surrounding Bergheim on clay-limestone soils, which impart an intense aromatic profile and balanced structure. The winemaking combines modern techniques with respect for tradition, highlighting the freshness, clarity, and delicate balance that define Alsatian wines. Visually, the wine presents a bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it offers lively and fruity aromas typical of Pinot Noir, with notes of small red fruits such as strawberries and cherries, complemented by subtle spicy hints and a pleasant fresh herbal nuance. On the palate, it is soft yet intense, with silky tannins and good acidity that ensure balance and persistence, making it well suited to both early drinking and pairing with light dishes. This 2022 Gustave Lorentz Pinot Noir Réserve pairs excellently with white meats, poultry, mushroom-based dishes, and delicate cheeses, enhancing the typical gastronomic characteristics of Alsace. In summary, this wine brings together history, terroir, and artisanal care, naturally and elegantly expressing the personality of Alsace Pinot Noir. It reflects the quality and freshness of a family committed to exceptional viticulture for more than 180 years. Notably, Alsace stands out not only as a French wine excellence but also as the country’s greenest region. The statistics speak volumes: 10% of vineyard areas employ mating disruption to reduce insecticide use, 25% hold organic certification, and an additional 50% are in the process of obtaining Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3 certification, highlighting the region’s strong environmental commitment.
