TASTING NOTES
The Gustave Lorentz Pinot Gris Réserve 2023 is a distinguished white wine produced in the renowned Alsace region, a true hallmark of French wine excellence. Alsace stands out not only for the quality of its wines but also as France’s “greenest” wine region, with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability: 10% of its vineyards use mating disruption to reduce insecticide use, 25% are certified organic, and a further 50% are undergoing certification at Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3, demonstrating attentive and responsible viticulture. This 2023 Pinot Gris Réserve is grown on the sunny slopes of the Altenberg hills, near the charming village of Bergheim, the vibrant heart of Alsace wine production. Here, clay-limestone soils impart distinctive minerality and structure to the wine. Founded in 1836, the estate is today one of the region’s key producers, managing 33 hectares of vineyards cultivated under certified organic practices since 2012, including 14.5 hectares of Grand Cru, reflecting the exceptional quality and potential of these terroirs. In the glass, the Pinot Gris displays an elegant golden yellow colour. The nose reveals complex aromas of dried fruit, hazelnuts, dehydrated white fruit, with captivating hints of honey and subtle smokiness—expressions of its rich aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is generous and well-structured, featuring a velvety texture that perfectly balances acidity and minerality, culminating in a long, persistent finish. This traditional Alsace white wine pairs beautifully with refined Asian cuisine, sushi, roasted meats, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses, enhancing flavours with its versatility and depth. In summary, the Gustave Lorentz Pinot Gris Réserve 2023 is a perfect harmony of tradition and sustainability—a refined and complex white wine proudly representing Alsace’s heritage and environmental dedication, offering an intense and rewarding tasting experience for lovers of great French Pinot Gris.
