TASTING NOTES
The Cru Dürnsteiner Kellerberg is the paragon for a top single vineyard in the Wachau region. Vines are growing on south-eats facing terraces made of natural stones with soils of weathered Gneiss and some layers of Loess on the bottom of the slope. A long vegetation period caused by the cool airflow in the nights is inducing a very late harvest. This particular kind of microclimate is responsible for unique wines combining refinement and power in their own inimitable way. Often the wines are at once smoky-hedonic and delicate-savoury.The vines are 25-35 years old and the grapes picked by hand at the end of October/ beginning of November, are fermented and aged for 10 months in big oak casks. The wine that is obtained has citrus and pear-edged notes of miso paste play subtly on the nose. The clear and serene freshness on the palate then plays against a beautifully textured mouthfeel that is reminiscent of Russet pear peel and rich with salty yeastiness. The tingling pepper on the finish only adds to the allure. The finish is long and intense.
