TASTING NOTES
In Puglia, the most important appellation, Primitivo di Manduria, put a delayed but great 2021 vintage in the cellar. Grape quality was immediately excellent from a phytosanitary point of view. Initially there were fears for an uncertain vintage due to high temperatures in July and August but, in the end, technology and expertise saved the quality. As is well known, Primitivo and Negroamaro represent two of the most important grape varieties typical of the Apulian territory. They have also contributed to the spread and appreciation of Salento wines throughout Italy and even the rest of the world. Gloria is the most important wine of the Vigneti Reale winery. Primitivo grapes grown as small trees grow in the most vocated area for this grape, Manduria, giving one kilogram of healthy, ripe, colorful and sugary grapes per plant. The wine is aged 12 months in French barriques and at least 6 months in bottle, allowing the powerful structure of this wine to soften and show notes of coffee cocoa and vanilla, with a hint of licorice. In the glass it is deep ruby red, while the nose impresses with its finesse and sweet aromas of berries. Perfect paired with grilled or roasted meats and savory cheeses. The frieze captured on the label is a detail from the floor of the tea room of the Royal Villa where Donna Gloria used to spend her afternoons.
