Great formats for Great Wines. 55 Magnums and 13 Large Bottles to drink and enjoy

A Magnum-size glass bottle, which has twice the capacity of the usual 0.75 liter bottle, or even more large sizes such as Jéroboam, equal to three liters (4 bottles),Réhoboam, equal to 5 liters and Mathusalem, which contains six liters of wine (8 bottles), are not only prestigious bottles but also the best format against the risk of oxidation of wines destined for long aging. To study the effect of the format on bottles is a research carried out by Prof. Gianpaolo Andrich of the Department of Agricultural, Food and Agro-Environmental Sciences of theUniversity of Pisa. The study wanted to examine four different types of wine (a white, a rosé, a young red and a structured red) in bottles of different sizes, and the results before and after aging in the bottle were compared, with particular attention to oxidative phenomena. This study has shown that as the volume of the container used decreases, the relationship between the area exposed to material transfer (O2) and the volume of wine in this content tends to increase.
In summary in the magnum there is the best ratio of volume to exposed surface. And the bigger the bottle, the better the wine will be after a long aging. Fans may already know this, but now this is no longer a feeling, but a certainty. If you want to drink a young wine drink it then in the bottle of 075, but as you age you always choose bottles with a larger format, it will certainly give you better aromas and flavors.
