TASTING NOTES
The Basilica del Pruneto wine is crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes grown in a south-facing vineyard at an elevation of 320 metres above sea level. The vineyard benefits from deep clayey loam soil with few stones, derived from marly limestone and calcariferous sandstone. The grapes are cultivated using organic principles. The 2018 vintage in Chianti Classico, where the vineyard is located, benefited from favourable climatic conditions. A cold and rainy winter allowed the vines to accumulate important water reserves, while a warm and dry spring promoted early flowering and the perfect ripening of the grapes. The summer provided sunny days and moderate temperatures without extreme heat, while cool nights helped maintain grape acidity. The autumn weather was dry, which resulted in a successful and healthy harvest of well-ripened grapes. These exceptional weather conditions and careful cultivation produced a vintage of exceptional quality. The 2018 Chianti Classico wines possess an elegant character with a harmonious balance, abundant fruit flavours, soft tannins, and lively acidity. These wines are highly regarded in the world of winemaking for their immediate appeal and potential for beautiful development over time. Harvesting is by hand in the last ten days of September, alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, breaking up and wetting of the pomace cap by manual punching down and pumping over in the air. Maturation in 225-litre French oak barrels of medium toasting in first, second and third passage. Once the ageing process is complete, the blend is made. This is then rested in cement vats and the bottle for at least 12 months before release. The wine is an intense and brilliant ruby red in appearance. The nose has a stony minerality, with notes of graphite and slate mixed with cherry skins and sour plums. The palate is juicier, with flavours of fresh, candied cherries, pepper and spice. The tannins are robust, with lively acidity and a crisp finish.

Cafaggio

Cafaggio Discover Cafaggio in Tuscany and its fine wines in our online store The historic Cafaggio Estate, located in Panzano within the renowned Conca d'Oro area of Chianti, comprises 60 hectares of land. With a long history dating back to 1408, the estate has changed hands over the centuries. Currently owned by ISA S.p.A, a financial company based in Trento since 2016, Cafaggio is dedicated to being a distinguished producer of Chianti Classico wines. The estate comprises 30 hectares of vineyards, 3 hectares of olive groves, and the remaining land is covered with woodland. Previously belonging to various entities, including the Benedictine monks of Siena, the Niccolini family of Florence, and the Florentine Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova, the estate was later renovated and revitalised by the Boddi family in the 19th century and the Farkas family in the 1960s. During the Farkas family's tenure, the cellars were restored and the vineyards and olive groves were given meticulous attention. Cafaggio is committed to continuous improvement and the careful management of the entire production process.
