TASTING NOTES
The grapes destined for the production of Neroparadiso 2021 come from vineyards situated on a loamy-clay soil with a predominance of sand, which gives them a unique minerality. These vineyards enjoy excellent exposure and proximity to the Lazio coast, generating a sweet and typically Mediterranean microclimate, ideal for vine cultivation. Here, the vines are cultivated using traditional methods, without the use of mechanical soil processing. Instead, the plants are covered with a layer of travertine stones, which prevents trampling, smothers weeds, and reflects sunlight, promoting optimal grape maturation. After a careful manual selection in the vineyard, the grapes are harvested in mid-September. They undergo a brief cold soak, followed by partial destemming and fermentation in amphorae made of three different materials: clinker, cocciopesto, and ceramic. This unique process imparts the wine with an aromatic complexity and a tannic structure of great elegance. At the end of fermentation, the grapes are delicately pressed by hand, and the wine is racked back into the amphorae, where it remains for the entire aging period, which normally lasts 12 months. The evolution in bottle continues for an additional 6 months, allowing the wine to reach its maximum expression. Neroparadiso presents an intense and deep ruby red color, embellished with purple reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is fascinating and complex, with notes of cherry, dark berries, fresh red flowers, and candied bitter orange, intertwining with spicy hints of cloves and black pepper. On the palate, the wine reveals an elegant and clean character, with fresh tannins and a pronounced minerality that blends with notes of bitter citrus, black pepper, and red berry fruit.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
The name "Neroparadiso" stems from an intriguing oxymoron, representing a paradise that contrasts with the idea of peace and serenity traditionally associated with it. Inspired by Cabanel's work "The Fallen Angel," the name evokes Lucifer after his expulsion from paradise, symbolizing a captivating and mysterious darkness.
