TASTING NOTES
The Premier Cru La Comme vineyard is situated in the commune of Santenay, in the renowned Côte d'Or region. Located in the northern part of Santenay, bordering Chassagne-Montrachet, this parcel is considered the best in the commune due to its marly, clayey soil, which provides ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir. The hilly escarpment location of La Comme ensures generous exposure to the sun, thanks to its south-eastern orientation and the angle of the vines. The clay soil and the greater presence of clay than in other areas of Santenay give the Premier Cru wines of La Comme a unique character. The low yields and small bunches of vines planted in 1955 contribute to the production of high-quality wines that faithfully reflect the terroir and offer an extraordinary taste experience. The vinification process includes a four-day cold maceration phase, followed by 12 days of alcoholic fermentation and six days of post-fermentation maceration. The wine is then matured for 14 months, 12 of which are spent in barrels on the lees without racking and 2 months in vats, with 30% new oak barrels. The wine is mineral, well structured, powerful and concentrated, and offers excellent ageing potential. The wine displays notes of candied black fruit, roasted coffee and roasted coffee on the nose, with a subtle earthy undertone. On the palate, there are enveloping mocha, vibrant cherry and spicy aromas. This wine can age up to 20 years, but it is recommended to open it at least after five years in the bottle. The Bachey-Legros estate is renowned for its ancient vineyards that produce high-quality grapes thanks to the family's dedication and care. Lénaïc and Samuel are currently the custodians of this heritage, which extends over 18 hectares in the best locations of Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet and Les Maranges. The company's ethos is based on respect for the vine, the environment and family tradition. This ensures that the excellence and personality of their wines are kept alive as a testimony to the past, handed down with care and passion. The wines of Bachey-Legros are known as a domain of Old Vineyards, and are a harmonious combination of strength and finesse that reflect the unique character of the local terroir.
