TASTING NOTES
The Maranges appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) is located in the renowned Côte de Beaune wine region. It is famous for the production of red wines made from the Pinot Noir grape. In the past, the wines from the Maranges vineyards were part of the Côte de Beaune-Villages appellation. However, since 1989, they have been granted their own appellation for their more than 170 hectares of vineyard land. This area also boasts some prestigious Premier Cru vineyards bordering Santenay to the east. The vineyard soils are characterised by a concentration of limestone and clay. Despite being located in the Saône et Loire, Maranges is considered an integral part of the Côte de Beaune and, consequently, of the renowned Côte d'Or wine region. The wine produced in this area comes from the blending of two traditional vine parcels: The Les Aubuzes vineyard is characterised by old clones and a clay-rich soil, while En Crevèche has a wetter soil containing limestone and clay with small pebbles. The two plots are fermented separately and then blended to maintain the freshness of the fruit. The production of this wine involves a five-day cold maceration, followed by an eight-day alcoholic fermentation and a five-day post-fermentation maceration. The wine is then matured for 14 months: 12 months in barrels on the lees without racking and 2 months in tanks. Maturation takes place in oak barrels, 20% of which are new. The extraction was carefully and meticulously executed to bring out the flavour of the fruit. The wine has an elegant palate that combines the flavours of black fruits, such as ripe Burlat cherries and wild blackberries, creating an enveloping sweetness and a rich, velvety texture. The Bachey-Legros estate is renowned for its ancient vineyards that produce high-quality grapes thanks to the family's dedication and attention, which have been passed down through generations. Their wines reflect the identity of the local terroir and are distinguished by the perfect combination of power and finesse. The family's legacy is linked to the excellence and personality of their wines, which represent a tradition guarded with love and passion. Today, Lénaïc and Samuel are the custodians of this heritage. The estate's vineyards cover 18 hectares and are located in privileged positions in Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet and Les Maranges. The most precious vines are those planted between 1935 and 1955. The ethos of the estate is based on respect for the vines, the environment and the work of their predecessors. The Bachey-Legros domaine is known for producing wines from old vineyards.
