TASTING NOTES
Porto Ferreira Vintage 2016 is a unique and exceptional wine. With over 250 years of excellence traditions, Ferreira, one of the best wineries in all Portugal with wines dating back to 1815 and represents a real point of reference for aficionados. Balance, finesse, elegance, Vintage 2016 promises to be one of Ferreira's greatest Porto Vintage. Vinified with selected grapes from Quinta do Caêdo and Quinta do Porto, the grapes are harvested by hand in the optimal phase of ripeness and vinified according to traditional practices. The delicate pressing and partial destemming of the perfectly ripe fruit are then followed by maceration during alcoholic fermentation. The grapes were pressed in legares, large granite vats, at a controlled temperature of 28ºC. This pressing technique promotes the quality of the extraction during fermentation. After the assembly of each batch, the wines already demonstrate exceptional quality, presaging a great vintage. The wines are then aged for 18 months in oak barrels. The final batch was obtained only after a rigorous selection of the wines; only the highest quality ones were used. This Vintage shows a very intense, almost dark color The aroma reveals a great complexity and intensity with notes of dried black fruit, such as plums and figs. Very interesting are the balsamic notes of heather as well as hints of licorice, cocoa and chocolate deriving from the excellent maturation. Dense on the palate, with great volume, it has a balanced acidity that frames notes of milk chocolate and black cherry. The finish is characterized by depth, freshness and balance like the original Ferreira style. It pairs perfectly with cheeses and chocolate. Better to be served between 16 and 18 °C. A Vintage Port with a very long aging potential.

The Ferreira company was founded in 1751 by a family of Portuguese winegrowers and traders. Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira , nurturing a great passion, decided to invest heavily in the modernization of the region, in order to increase the quality of Port wine . She concentrated a lot on the values of the Ferreira company, consolidating the link between wine production and the commercial aspect without ever forgetting her origins. She introduced new techniques for the cultivation of vines, for the production of wine and bottling. Ferreira has 4 estates: in Pinhão there are Quinta do Seixo (100 hectares), Quinta do Porto (40 hectares) and Quintado Caêdo (23 hectares), while Quinta da Leda (95 hectares) is located in Foz Coa. Produced with enormous passion for more than 250 years, Ferreira is recognized as a synonym for the excellence of Port wines.
