TASTING NOTES
The winter of 2020 at Bolgheri was characterised by mild temperatures and abundant rainfall. There were no frost problems, although some nights in March were close to zero. The spring was warm with normal rainfall, which favoured regular plant development right up to flowering. The last rains arrived in mid-June before a hot and dry summer. Rainfall did not return until the end of August, with temperatures dropping towards the middle of September. The grapes for the 2020 Campo alla Giostra were harvested at the end of September when they were fully ripe to ensure maximum fruit potential. After selection in the vineyard, the grapes were taken to the cellar for vinification. Alcoholic fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with daily pumping over to encourage extraction of colour and aromas. Malolactic fermentation then takes place. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one year old) for 18 months, followed by a further 6 months in bottle.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
The name Campo alla Giostra "dei cavalli" is in honor of the 20th general of Varenne, born in 1995, who was raised by Dubois in the stables of the Estate.

Donna Olimpia 1898

Donna Olimpia 1898 Discover Tenuta Donna Olimpia 1898 in Tuscany and its fine wines in our online store Of ancient and noble origins, the Donna Olimpia 1898 estate was baptized in the same year in honor of Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno and wife of Gherardo della Gherardesca on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their wedding. Located in the heart of Bolgheri , in the province of Livorno, spread over 60 hectares, 45 of which are new vineyards planted following a study on clones and rootstocks. The vines planted are obviously those whose vocation has been widely demonstrated: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot; for white wines, on the other hand, Vermentino, Viognier and Petit Manseng. Gifts of a unique territory, Donna Olimpia 1898's wines are characterized by their minerality, harmonic structure and intrinsic elegance. The estate boasts a modern cellar of 5000 square meters, designed to maximize energy savings and minimize environmental impact. It is equipped with the best available production technology, but still the aging in wood takes place in French oak barriques, so traditional. The barrel room is certainly the most important and evocative environment of the entire wine estate.
