TASTING NOTES
The Alto Adige DOC Gewürztraminer 2024 by Winzerberg represents an outstanding example of viticultural excellence, fully embodying the character of the South Tyrolean region. This mountainous area, with vineyards situated between 400 and 800 metres above sea level, provides ideal conditions for cultivating Gewürztraminer. The hilly terrain, often steep, combined with a cool climate, promotes the development of intense and complex aromas. The climate of Alto Adige, marked by significant diurnal temperature variation, blends sunny days with cool nights due to mountain breezes. This thermal contrast enables the grapes to develop concentrated aromas while maintaining lively acidity, a crucial element for the balance and freshness of this wine. The 2024 vintage posed challenges for winemakers due to a cool, rainy spring that delayed ripening, followed by a hot summer and autumn rains. Nevertheless, thanks to the expertise of South Tyrolean producers, the grapes achieved excellent quality, resulting in delicate and fresh white wines. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo maceration and gentle pressing before being fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Prior to bottling and refinement, the wine matures for approximately four months in stainless steel to preserve its freshness and varietal aromas. In the glass, this Gewürztraminer 2024 from Winzerberg displays a brilliant straw-yellow colour with golden highlights. On the nose, it is intense and aromatic, offering scents of rose, lychee, grapefruit, and lime. On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth, and aromatic with a subtle spiciness. This wine pairs beautifully with spicy Asian cuisine, shellfish, blue cheeses or can be enjoyed as a meditative wine.
