TASTING NOTES
Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder, for over a century has found the best conditions in South Tyrol to grow and mature optimally. The warm and well ventilated vineyards between 500 and 700 m a.s.l. in the Renon and Leitach area the typical South Tyrolean Pinot Noir is produced: well structured and elegant. The 2022 harvest in South Tyrol, as throughout Italy, will be remembered as one of the hottest and driest. Second in temperature only to that of 2015, it began, at least in this area, almost three weeks earlier. The grapes brought to the cellar are slightly smaller than in previous years, with a higher sugar content and decidedly warmer aromas. Harvested at the beginnin of September, the grapes are first de-stemmed and then fermented in steel. A part of the wine obtained matures for a short time in oak barrels, to increase the spicy characteristics and the liquorice notes that distinguish it. The color is full ruby red. The nose is broad, intense, with fruity and floral notes of cherry, raspberry, plum and violet with a light note of licorice and spices. The taste is fruity, velvety, of medium structure and tannins. Perfect match with beef, feathered game and semi-aged cheeses. It can certainly be interesting to compare the same wine with the previous vintage, 2021, which in contrast had been cool and had led to a slightly delayed harvest.
