TASTING NOTES
The Basilica Solatìo, a wine produced by Tenuta di Cafaggio as the flagship Chianti Classico Riserva, has been reintroduced with the 2010 vintage. This wine is crafted using the finest grapes from the Basilica and Solatìo vineyards, which span over 2.2 hectares and 1.37 hectares, respectively. These vineyards, planted with Sangiovese in the early 1990s, adhere to organic cultivation principles. The 2018 vintage in the Chianti Classico region was highly regarded as a positive one. The weather conditions were favourable, with a cold and rainy winter that provided the vineyards with an ample water supply. The spring season was warm and dry, which led to an early flowering and ideal grape ripening. During the summer, the region experienced sunny days and moderate temperatures without any extreme heatwaves. The cool nights aided in preserving the acidity of the grapes. In autumn, dry weather conditions allowed for a smooth harvest of healthy and fully ripened grapes. Overall, the 2018 vintage produced wines of exceptional quality. These wines are characterised by their elegant character, balanced profiles, and abundant fruit flavours. They possess silky tannins and refreshing acidity, making them truly exquisite offerings. The Chianti Classico wines from the 2018 vintage are considered to be oenological gems, suitable for immediate enjoyment but also capable of aging gracefully. The Basilica Solatìo, as part of this remarkable vintage, showcases the unique terroir of the Tenuta di Cafaggio. Thanks to careful organic cultivation practices and the exceptional weather conditions of the 2018 season, this wine mirrors the best of what the Chianti Classico region has to offer. The Basilica Solatìo is a worthy symbol of this renowned estate, with its complex flavours, harmonious structure, and vibrant acidity.

Cafaggio

Cafaggio Discover Cafaggio in Tuscany and its fine wines in our online store The historic Cafaggio Estate, located in Panzano within the renowned Conca d'Oro area of Chianti, comprises 60 hectares of land. With a long history dating back to 1408, the estate has changed hands over the centuries. Currently owned by ISA S.p.A, a financial company based in Trento since 2016, Cafaggio is dedicated to being a distinguished producer of Chianti Classico wines. The estate comprises 30 hectares of vineyards, 3 hectares of olive groves, and the remaining land is covered with woodland. Previously belonging to various entities, including the Benedictine monks of Siena, the Niccolini family of Florence, and the Florentine Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova, the estate was later renovated and revitalised by the Boddi family in the 19th century and the Farkas family in the 1960s. During the Farkas family's tenure, the cellars were restored and the vineyards and olive groves were given meticulous attention. Cafaggio is committed to continuous improvement and the careful management of the entire production process.
